Discipline Ranting!
June 23, 2008
Just wanna blog about discipline. I dunno whether to say that discipline is something that occurs to us naturally or is something that can only be nurtured in someone. But seriously, for me, discipline is the main pillar of my character. Discipline for me is natural. I don’t know how it got there, perhaps being nurtured into me when I was young. I don’t know. All I know is that as I grow older, I knew that the issue if discipline will become more important. “There’s always a time for everything”. I had always believed in that. When its time to be serious, I will be very serious to the extent of scolding people who fails at being serious. When it’s time to joke, I will joke with you until our stomachs hurt.
When you grow older, shouldnt you have more self-discipline? But look at lecture theatres everywhere in school. There’s never a time where the students keep quiet during lectures (unless the lecturer is super fierce) If not, there will always be chattering. I mean, can’t these fuckers just shut the fuck up and be quiet for just 1 hour of lecture??!! Not only are they not learning, they are also preventing others from learning by their incessant talking. What selfish fuckers!
And when someone is talking, shouldnt we be quiet and respect them by listening to what they have to say? Well, I know some people who definitely do not follow this. This is just my opinion. Its just rude to be talking when someone else is talking. I mean, is it really difficult for us to stop fucking talking?? I really find that strange la.
My point is that i came to a conclusion that we have loads of students in NYP who have no self-discipline to begin with and i can say that they will have difficulty in achieving what they really want at the end of the day.
JAMMING,EXPEDITION!
June 19, 2008
Today was such a fun day. Me, Dan and Lun Tat jammed to our hearts’ content in the band room. Lol. Who would have thought that our school band room could be a jamming studio?? Anyways, we practised the songs that we are going to play for the Tapestry auditions which are Kiss Me, a cover by New Found Glory and Misery Business by Paramore. I had a great time playing the drums man. Its been a long time since i touched the drums ever since we always had to practise our vienna competition pieces.
Right now, my arms and legs are seriously aching because of the energetic playing of the drums. My fingers are covered with blisters and bruises cause my sticks keep hitting my hands and my hands keep hitting the rims of the drums. But all the pain was so worth it.
After the fun and tiring jamming session, we headed off to Peninsula Plaza to get the receipt for the clothes we bought from there. After that, decided to watch movie but luck was not on our side today. All the movies started late around 930. We wanted to watch @7 plus. So instead, we went to Suntec, bought some drinks and snacks. And then went to sit at the Fountain Of Wealth to watch the spectcular display of lightings fused with the water fountain. Man, was dat cool. And the sad thing about it, is that they keep playing all the slow and emo songs man..Felt like slitting my wrists.
Around 955pm, we left for home. Now, i’m still not asleep at 1.41am. Thought of studying later for my tests which is next week buttttttt am too lazy. Lol.
-Procrastination is an evil thing.
Drumzout 2008
June 15, 2008
Blogging in the midnite is so tiring!
Today met up wif Danial, Affni and the “lame shit” Jokhie to watch Drumzout 2008, an annual percussion competition that is held at the Toa Payoh HDB hub in the afternoon. We met at Burger King and then ate our lunch while watching Monster Phunk, a funk local band who open up for the percussion competition. They were great man! And who would have thought you can play double pedal groove on a funk song. Danial was like,” Tu double pedal eh? (Was that a double pedal.<translate into english>). I was surprised too man.
There were 7 percussion ensembles performing but only three stood out. The Global Percussion from ITE East, Zhenghua Sec and finally, my secondary school, Canberra Sec. Kudos to Canberra Sec for getting third place at the percussion competition. I realised that loads of school, when they perform, they are too focused on what they are playing to the extent that they never listen to other people’s parts and the most important thing is that they forgot to SMILE!(like some of us in the ensemble.LOL.) Loads of them were super serious and when they make a minor mistake, POOF! The normal expression is gone and the weird scringy and squirmy expression appears. When i saw that, i immediately thought of Dennis’s reminder to not show that you are making a mistake.
NYPPE should enter this competition next year to see how good we are. We always have performance, either internally or externally. So it’s time for us to judge our standard at a national level. And what would be a better way to do it than to enter this percussion competition. For this competition, i do not want Dennis to perform wif us. No, i’m not being arrogant and bad for letting him perform. I just wanna see how good we are without Dennis as he has always been the one who will pump us up during our performance.
After the competition, Affni left and the three of us went to Somerset to HMV. Went there to listen to music and check out upcoming bands. We were surprised to see that there was a hip hop competition going on as well outside of HMV. THe junior category was boring. The open category was much better. And Jokhie was acting all excited and stuff. WHAT THE HELL LA! lol.
We went to get some coffee at Starbucks after that. We sat there and chat about anything under the sun. And as usual, Jokhie had some stupid weird body movement (or should i sae convulsions) when he was cold. Made and Dan laughed so hard. He was super lame la. After coffee, went back to watch the hip hop competition for awhile and then left for home. Tired!
YAY!! NEW SMARTPHONE!
June 10, 2008
Woohoo! Just got my new smartphone today. The HTC Dopod Touch Dual. Actually, it was just passing remark. I told my mum that i’m kinda super busy with all my academics, band and ensemble and my organiser can no longer fit any more memo. So i told her how great it would be if i had a PDA or smartphone and with it, i can organise my stuff properly and efficient.
And true enough, my mum woke me up in the morning and told me that my dad is going to get me the smartphone that i wanted. At first, i “tio” stunned. Then my mum brought me the pda review magazine and ask me to choose the model of smartphone i wanted. And so i chose the HTC Dopod Touch Dual.
Actually, i wanted a smartphone because i saw Dennis using it during practices and i told myself,”how cool if i were to own one?” THIS SMARTPHONE IS GREAT!
Lids Rocks!!
June 9, 2008
I just saw the video of our the ensemble playing Lids during the concert and it totally rocks man. I think we go percussion competition with that kind of standard (without affni dropping her sticks) confirm will win man. Our lids piece just keep improving and improving and now, with the addition of the lids, it will definitely bring and extra BAM to the performance. Here’s the video of us playing Lids. WE ROCK!!
Its the holidays!!
June 7, 2008
Yeah! Finally, its the holidays. Been waiting for it since like forever. But i must say i haven really plan what i’m going to do during the holidays. Perhaps go to more gigs than usual? Or catch up with old friends? Practising my strokes(important!)? Or just slack at home after all the work that i have done cause i think i really deserve it. But for now, i’m spending my time playing this game called Monster Rancher. Even though this game is supposed to be played on the PSOne, my brother found a PSOne emulator and now, I having a blast playing this game on PC platform on the emulator.
Basically, the idea of this game is to raise strong monsters and work your way to the top of the league. Monsters are the top will be officially placed in the Hall Of Fame. Currently, i’m training a monster called Granity. Can’t blog any longer. Need to train my baby Granity!! Pictures of the game are below.
Our Concert Rocks!!
June 4, 2008
The percussion ensemble concert yesterday was by far the highlight of my whole poly life. It was just great. Before we started our concert, I made it a point for us to gather around in a circle and say our last words before we started playing. Last words of encouragement. “SMILE! PLAY WITH ATTITUDE, PEOPLE!” I was expecting a quite an OK turnout for the audience. But when the curtains open, it was close to a full house man! WOOHOO! The more audience members, the more adrenaline i have to play my parts.
Our performance was just great. The lighting was great, thanks to Edwin and his crew members. You guys rock man! And there was a smoke machine behind the stage, which was bloody cool. And my SNARE DRUM SOLO! How could I forget about it??!! That was the bomb. The throwing of my sticks and successfully catching. BOOYA!! After that piece, we played visional train which was great too. I saw Danial moving around with full of energy while playing the bass guitar beside and i was tempted to play with more energy. Arms flying around as i hit the cymbals. It was just great. And luckily, i threw my drumsticks in the middle of the song and it didnt fell!
After that were the girls Diner’s Club which was great. Good job, girls!! We were so amazed at how much they improved like within a few hours and the we guys at backstage were like nodding our heads to the rhythm. But the highlight of the concert was definitely the guys Rockin Rickie Rocket, which was an air drummer piece. Me and jokhie were like super stoked when performing this piece. The laughter of the audience was made me and jokhie more motivated to do our most comedic and best performance. And not forgetting the other guys who made the air drumming sounds. They were like dancing “Saturday Night Fever” style, bobbing of shoulders and slapping their asses (literally). Good job to u guys too man!! When that piece ended, i was so happy and glad to hear the loud clapping and cheering from the audience.
Last piece was Lids. That piece was the most freaking energetic piece. I had to really show my energy and i nearly dropped my sticks. Good thing never dropped. In all, the concert was a great success and i’m glad to be a part of the concert and also a part of this wonderful percussion ensemble. Below are the pics we took after the concert..
Just a blog post..
June 2, 2008
This is the first time i’m blogging outside of my house. Lol. Currently, at the emo corner in the library doing nothing. I’m thought of wanting to go to the TFA early to polish up the cymbals but it was total darkness in there! And jokhie told me that the lights can only be switched on from projection room, which was locked. I was like, “Crap, walk so far den close”. Since i got no school today, i decided to go to to the library and go to the emo corner to laze around. And i thought,”SInce i’m free, why not blog??”
It feels kinda different when i blog in school as i blog about the things and events i see that is going on around me. Like for, example, when i was walking to the emo corner at the north wing, i saw Valerie in her pink shirt teaching someone to play the drums. Lol. I saw her friend holding on to the drumsticks and just hitting it on the table. Haha.
And to my right were some hot girls chatting at their tables. One was like a Caucasian looking one and the rest were hot Chinese babes. Haha.
Right now, i’n waiting for jokhie to meet me after collecting the wigs at bugis. Hope he reach here soon. I’m dying of boredom here, people!!!
